AAGT 2026 Conference

Too often, “gifted” is treated as a childhood label rather than a lifelong identity. This session challenges that narrative by reframing giftedness as a dynamic, evolving aspect of selfhood. Drawing from neuropsychological and developmental science, Dr. Gardner will illuminate how gifted individuals experience identity shifts during childhood, adolescence, college, career development, and beyond. Participants will explore how neurodiversity, twice-exceptionality, and emotional intensity intersect with identity—and how parents and educators can foster environments that validate and empower gifted individuals’ whole selves. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to help move beyond achievement-based self-worth toward authentic self-understanding and resilience.
